
Guwahati: Assam Governor, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for their generosity in granting funds for Srimanta Sankardev Chair and thereby contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Assam.
It may be noted that in the state budget for 2025-26, the Chhattisgarh Government has allocated an amount of Rs. 2 crore for the establishment of the “Srimanta Sankardev Chair” at Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU). The chair was created to facilitate scholarly research and academic exploration on the teachings and contributions of the revered saint-scholar, Srimanta Sankardeva, who played an instrumental role in shaping the socio-cultural landscape of Assam.
Governor Acharya expressed his deep appreciation for the gesture, which reflects the strong cultural ties between Assam and Chhattisgarh. He further stated that the contribution will go a long way in fostering a deep-rooted study, research of Srimanta Sankardeva’s legacy. The chair will provide the scholars to delve into Srimanta Sankardeva’s profound impact on Assam’s history, art, literature, and spiritual legacy.
Acharya further said that the establishment of the Srimanta Sankardeva Chair will serve as a valuable academic platform for furthering and strengthening the study of the saint’s profound contributions to Bhakti movement, literature, and culture, stated a press release.
