GUWAHATI: In a series of successful operations, Guwahati Police cracked down on two separate illegal activities, leading to significant seizures and arrests. While one raid targeted a scrapyard suspected of dealing in stolen electrical materials, the other exposed a grocery shop operating as a front for drug peddling.

In the first operation, a team from Bhagaduttapur Outpost under Dispur Police Station conducted a raid at a scrapyard in Dakhingaon, Kahilipara. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police recovered a large quantity of suspected stolen copper and silver wires during the search. The seized materials included 220 kg of electric copper wire, 4 kg of copper AC pipes, and 52 kg of silver electric wire. Following the seizure, the scrapyard owner, Md. Mannan Hussain (24), a resident of Mazgumi village under Chaygaon Police Station in Kamrup, was apprehended.

Meanwhile, in another major operation, a joint team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Central Guwahati Police Department and Noonmati Police Station uncovered an illicit drug supply hidden inside a grocery shop at Kailash Nagar, Nepali Chowk. Officers seized 24 packs of ganja (104 grams), three packs of rolling papers, and a metal smoking pipe from the shop. The shop owner, Gagan Baishya (60), has been arrested. Officials suspect that the shop was part of a larger network involved in the illegal drug trade. Further investigations are underway to uncover potential suppliers and customers linked to the operation.
