GUWAHATI: Guwahati Refinery, under the guidance of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kamrup Metro, is going to conduct an offsite disaster mock drill on March 12, at around 11 am to check the effectiveness of the emergency response and preparedness of the refinery in tackling offsite emergency situations, i.e., disasters outside the boundary of the refinery.
Accordingly, a scenario of a fire engulfing the open channel along the south side outside boundary wall of Guwahati Refinery has been prepared, which would further be brought under control by DDMA, Guwahati Refinery, Mutual Aid Partners, and State Fire Services, etc. There would also be participation from all stakeholders, including the Pollution Control Board of Assam (PCBA), State Police, District Health Services, National & State Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence, Army, Railways, Inspectorate of Factories, Inspectorate of Boiler, PESO, IndianOil AOD, GSPL, etc.
This is for the kind information of the general public that because of the scheduled mock drill, the commuters may face traffic congestion in the Noonmati area covering the road from the Mathgharia Flyover to the road leading to the Chandmari/Kharguli area during the period of the mock drill. However, it is to be mentioned that there is nothing to panic about during the period, as the drill would be carried out as per the laid-down Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to check the emergency preparedness & response of all the stakeholders as per defined roles in the Disaster Management Plan (DMP). Cooperation from all concerned is solicited in successfully carrying out the mock drill on March 12.
