Assam: Kamrup (M) ASTEA Holds 4th Biennial Session, Demands Restoration of OPS

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (M) district committee of the Assam Secondary Teachers and Employees’ Association (ASTEA) held its fourth biennial conference at Arya Vidyapeeth HS and Multipurpose School in Guwahati today. The conference resolved to urge the government to restore the old pension system (OPS).

In the delegates’ meeting, ASTEA general secretary Gobinda Chandra Kalita spoke on the public education system and problems of teachers and non-teaching staff members of schools in the state. He appealed to the teachers to come forward for upgrading the quality of education in the state, and the government should also solve the problems afflicting teachers and other employees with a humane approach. It is the duty of the government, he said. The delegates’ session took a few resolutions: restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS), filling in the vacant posts of teachers in schools, raising teachers’ earned leave up to 30 days, appointment of permanent head teachers, etc.

The conference elected the Kamrup (M) district committee of the ASTEA with Urmimala Bujorbaruah as the president, Shashadhar Kakati and Mridul Kumar Medhi as vice presidents, Manoj Kumar Lahkar as secretary, Rahimuddin Ahmed as general secretary, Upasona Goswami and Merina Hussain as state committee members.
