Guwahati: In the daytime hours, various people move around the city, pretending to be cab drivers, vegetable traders, and other ordinary citizens. But, unknown to the public, these individuals were actually part of a massive robbery network, comprising over 50 gang members, including drivers from Uber, Rapido, etc. The gang's strategy was to conduct reconnaissance during the day under the guise of ridesharing and trading before carrying out robberies at night.

A Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) team from Latasil PS busted a gang during a robbery attempt in the Zoo Road area and exposed their operations through the interrogation of seven arrested members. The gang's base was revealed to be in the Dhubri, Barpeta, and Darrang districts.

The arrested individuals are Sadek Ali (21), Akbar Ali (22), Lokman Ali (32), Abu Bakkar Siddiqui (36), and Saidul Rahman (27), all from Dalgaon. The team also arrested Joynal Abdin (27), who works as an Uber driver by day, and Dilwar Khan (28), the receiver, both from Baghbor, uprooting the entire gang. They have been involved in many break-ins and burglaries in the city.

Investigations, including call detail record analysis, showed that the group coordinated their plans after 2 a.m. before carrying out weekly thefts across the city.
