GUWAHATI: State Cabinet Ministers Pijush Hazarika and Chandra Mohan Patowary on Friday ceremonially distributed cheques to 20 women beneficiaries under Category-1 (Prompt Payer) of the Assam Micro-Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS), 2021 at a function held at the Khanapara Veterinary College ground here. This apart, a total of 5,000 beneficiaries were provided their respective cheques under the scheme in the Kamrup (M) district today at the block and ward levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Pijush Hazarika said that the Government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma is working to attain the goal of removing the word 'poor' from the lexicon of Assam. The Orunodoi scheme was also adopted with a view to attain this goal by enhancing the dignity of women and making them more self-reliant.

He also mentioned that with the Centre's assistance, it has become possible to reduce the magnitude of floods by 70 per cent in the State.
