Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary Calls for Proactive Approach to Skill, Employment

GUWAHATI: Assam Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Biswajit Daimary on Friday reviewed the progress of various skill development, employment, and entrepreneurship initiatives at a state-level meeting held at Janata Bhawan, Dispur. The meeting, organised by the Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department (SEED), was attended by senior principals, principals, and superintendents of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) from across the state, as well as officials from Employment Exchanges.

Commissioner and Secretary, SEED, Dr. Om Prakash, IAS, delivered the welcome address, and Secretary SEED Kasturi Bharali, along with other senior officials, was also present. Detailed presentations were given on the functioning and performance of the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT), Assam Skill Development Mission, Assam Skill University, and the Employment Wing. Officials briefed the Minister on key performance indicators and institutional functioning. The Minister reviewed ITI admissions over the past three years and assessed the availability of ITIs across Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Discussions also focused on transforming Employment Exchanges into District Youth Welfare Centres (DYWCs) to enhance their impact. The meeting addressed the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerana Scheme, career and vocational guidance programmes, and other youth-oriented initiatives.

Daimary further assessed the progress of North East Skill Centres (NESC), CM-FLIGHT, and other departmental programmes. He emphasized the need for a proactive, result-oriented approach at the district level to create tangible opportunities for young people. The Minister stressed that skill development programmes must keep pace with the evolving job market to ensure youth are equipped with relevant skills. He also called for closer coordination between ITIs and Employment Exchanges to improve skill development, employment prospects, and entrepreneurial avenues for Assam’s youth.
