GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC) president Mira Borthakur Goswami has alleged minister Jayanta Mallabaruah has encroached on a portion of Bondajan wetland and constructed a 254-metre-long road in the name of his late father, Kailash Malla Baruah. She further alleged that nearly Rs 3 crore from the government exchequer has been spent on this construction.
Leading a Congress delegation to the Bondajan area in Beerkuchi today, Barthakur strongly criticised Minister Mallabaruah, accusing him of illegally occupying land meant for water drainage and flood control.
She further claimed that while Minister Mallabaruah boasts of flood management and urban development in Guwahati, he conveniently overlooks his own residence and encroachments.
Echoing these concerns, Ratul Kalita, chairman of the Congress Social Media Department, accused the minister of lacking ethical values. “Instead of solving Guwahati’s flood crisis, he is feeding personal interests by illegally building roads over wetlands,” Kalita stated. He also mentioned that, as per local residents, the minister’s family has demolished and rebuilt boundary walls up to five times to reinforce their encroachment, a press release said.
