GUWAHATI: In a significant step towards modernising India’s railway network, Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F.R.) and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) held a high-level discussion session on bridge safety technologies. The meeting, which took place at the N.F. Railway (Construction) Headquarters in Maligaon, aimed to explore innovative solutions for enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in rail infrastructure.

During the session, experts from both institutions discussed state-of-the-art technologies for automated bridge monitoring and robotic underwater bridge maintenance. One of the key technologies highlighted was an advanced underwater inspection and maintenance system, which utilises robotics and AI-based systems to address the unique challenges of underwater bridge maintenance. Another major area of discussion was a command centre-based predictive maintenance system for automatic monitoring of railway bridges. This cutting-edge initiative aims to enhance bridge safety through predictive analytics. The collaboration between N.F. Railway and IIT-Guwahati sets a benchmark for blending academic research with practical implementation in the railway sector. With this partnership, India’s railway network is poised to become safer, more efficient, and sustainable.
