Nandini Kashyap hit and run case
Staff reporter
Guwahati: Amid public outcry over the delay in arresting actress Nandini Kashyap in connection with the recent hit-and-run case, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the police acted strategically, keeping in view the legal procedures and the condition of the victim.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister stated, “If the actress had been arrested on the day of the accident, the law would have compelled us to release her the same day, as the charges would have been bailable in the absence of grievous injury or death. At that point, we knew the victim’s condition was serious, so the police waited deliberately.”
“The police have done what was necessary. She has now been taken into custody, and a chargesheet will be filed against her under culpable homicide. What the public perceives and what the police are legally required to do can sometimes be different but the ultimate aim is same,” CM Sarma added.
Nandini Kashyap, who is currently in two-day police custody, is facing charges in the alleged hit-and-run incident that left one dead. Meanwhile, the case has brought forward new developments, with various angles of the case beginning to emerge.
