GUWAHATI: In a major operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police intercepted a vehicle carrying narcotics in North Guwahati's Amingaon area, leading to the seizure of heroin worth approximately Rs. 4 crore.

Based on specific intelligence, the operation was conducted after identifying an Alto vehicle with registration number AS 21 M 1450 that was suspected of delivering drugs from Jirighat in Silchar, on the Assam-Manipur border, to a district in Lower Assam via Kamrup.

During the operation, cops stopped the suspicious car and conducted a thorough search. They found 41 soap boxes containing heroin hidden inside the car's door panels during the inspection; the boxes weighed 533 grams without the packaging.

In connection with the seizure, authorities apprehended Sajmul Laskar, the driver, and Mrinal Hussain, the co-driver, both residents of Makhan Nagar in Jirighat, Cachar.

Upon checking the contraband drugs, the legal proceedings against them are currently underway. This significant seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of the Assam Police to combat drug trafficking in the region.

In another similar incident, Cachar Police seized a huge quantity of banned narcotic substances worth Rs 30 crore. SP Numol Mahatta informed that a special team of the district police raided a house at Chandrapur Part II, Kakmara in Lakhipur, and recovered 98,000 Yaba tablets and 10 soap cases filled with heroin.
