Assam: Positive steps taken for uplift of farmers, says Minister Atul Bora

GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Dairy Development Department and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department celebrated National Milk Day with a grand programme at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium at Kalakshetra premises in Panjabari, Guwahati, on Tuesday.

The programme was attended by the Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Government of Assam, Atul Bora, as the chief guest. In his speech, the minister said that the government has implemented various development programmes like animal health services, vaccination, and Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) and taken various positive steps for the uplift of farmers to increase milk production in the state. India produces 25% of the world's total milk. The government has taken various schemes to increase milk production in Assam.

A total of nine awards were presented to three best Dairy Cooperative societies and three best Artificial Insemination (AI) Technicians to encourage the AI workers under Dairy Cooperative societies and sex-sorted semen schemes in the state. The minister also launched a trilingual mobile application in Assamese, English, and Hindi for the convenience of farmers and cattle breeders. This will enable farmers to get advice from concerned experts besides assessing information on schemes, plans, etc., through all kinds of mobile software.

The event was attended by Cooperatives Minister Nandita Garlosa, Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation chairman Manoj Shaikia, principal secretary of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department Manish Thakur, and many other farmers coming from different places of the state.

The National Dairy Day was inaugurated with a bhajan performed by Dr. Rupjyoti Ojah, a senior artiste and retired assistant director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, stated a press release.
