GUWAHATI: The Assam Rail Passengers’ Association welcomes the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Assam with sincere thanks, appreciation and expectations. “With the Act East Policy of the Union Government in place and pragmatic steps aimed at development of human resource and infrastructure and at the same time corrective and reformative measures of both state and the Union Government have already started to bear fruits, we would hereby like to highlight another important aspect having wider ramifications, upon which needful measures have become a dire necessity aimed at nullifying the unsolicited feeling of alienation and deprivation generally held by the youths of the state,” they said.
Its been a long pending demand from the people of the North Eastern States raised at various platforms from time to time for creation of a separate Railway zone for the seven North Eastern States. This will enhance opportunities for employment for the local youths. Also, this move would greatly increase operational efficiency of the NFR and ensure a greater share of new trains/train services for different zones are legitimately, deservedly and exclusively available to the people of the North Eastern states. Let the territorial jurisdiction of the NF Railway becomes limited to the political boundary of the seven North Eastern states and the West Bengal and Bihar portions of NF Railway be clubbed with the respective nearest zonal headquarters of the Eastern Railway, Kolkata and East Central Railway, Hajipur.
The Assam Rail Passengers’ Association urges upon the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to look into the matter and recommend the creation of the NF Railway zone exclusively for the seven North Eastern States, stated a press release.
