Guwahati: The Jorhat MP and deputy leader of the Congress parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Tuesday met the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and submitted a letter for the resumption of direct flight services between Jorhat and Delhi.
MP Gaurav Gogoi, in his letter, said, “On my previous letter dated July 1, 2024, regarding the urgent need to reinstate direct flight services between Jorhat, Assam, and Delhi. As you may recall, SpiceJet had expressed its willingness to resume operations on this route. However, there has been no significant development since then. As a reminder, the current air connectivity between Jorhat and Delhi involves a connecting flight via Kolkata, which is both time-consuming and inconvenient for passengers. Previously, Indigo operated a direct flight service between Jorhat and Delhi, which was highly valued by the community. However, this was discontinued, causing significant inconvenience to the people of Jorhat and the region.”
MP Gaurav Gogoi, in his letter, further said, “The absence of a direct flight not only causes inconveniences to the travellers but also imposes a significant financial burden on the residents of Jorhat. The high ticket prices for connecting flights are particularly problematic for those who rely on air travel for essential purposes, such as medical emergencies, business travel, and family visits. While other cities in the Northeast region enjoy direct air connectivity to Delhi, Jorhat remains underserved. By reinstating direct flights between Jorhat and Delhi, the government can significantly improve the connectivity of the region, boost economic growth, and enhance the overall quality of life for the residents.” MP Gaurav Gogoi urged the ministers to look into the matter and take immediate steps to facilitate the resumption of direct flight services between Jorhat and Delhi.
