Guwahati: A delegation from the Assam State Primary Teacher Association (ASPTA) met with Director of Elementary Education, Suranjana Senapati, on Friday to review progress regarding salary disbursement for teachers appointed under the Special Recruitment Drive (SRD). This meeting came after prior discussions with the Education Minister on August 11, where SRD teachers demanded that their salaries be disbursed through the previous system instead of the SNA-SPARSH module.
ASPTA president Ratul Chandra Goswami and general secretary Shailendra Kalita reported that the association had monitored the situation between August 11 and 19, but found no change in the SRD teachers’ salary records in FinAssam. They noted that the DDO Code remained DIS/ASM/146, the Directorate Name was still listed as Samagra Shiksha Axom, and the Treasury remained Dispur. Additionally, no updates were found under “Earned Salary Advance” or “Salary Link.”
Concerned about the lack of progress, the association submitted a letter to the Director on August 19, seeking renewed discussions. Responding to this request, Director Suranjana Senapati invited the delegation for a meeting on August 21.
During Friday’s meeting, the ASPTA sought a direct update on the implementation of the decisions taken earlier in August. The Director informed the delegation that discussions and necessary steps were ongoing at various levels to enable salary payments to SRD teachers through the earlier system. The association also pressed for SRD teachers’ salaries for June 2026 and subsequent months to be disbursed in the same manner as the June salary.
Director Senapati assured the delegation that necessary measures were being taken and stated that another meeting with the association would be held on August 24, 2026, to further address their concerns. ASPTA had previously submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, and Director of Elementary Education, opposing the payment of SRD teacher salaries through the SNA-SPARSH module.
