Guwahati: Assam has emerged as one of the leading states in the country for volunteer registration under the Ministry of Education’s flagship Vidyanjali 2.0 initiative.
According to Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA), a total of 63,305 volunteers have registered on the Vidyanjali portal, reflecting the state’s strong community participation in the education sector.
Assam also holds the top position in assets and material contributions to schools. Under the initiative, communities, NGOs, organizations, and individuals have made significant donations, including ceiling fans, solar panels, water tanks, play materials, computers, books, science kits, and more.
Infrastructure contributions have also been noteworthy, with additions such as additional classrooms (ACRs), toilets, boundary walls, solar panels, water tanks, and handwash stations across government schools.
Meanwhile, SSA has called upon alumni, community members, NGOs, corporate social responsibility (CSR) units, and registered volunteers to contribute Newspaper Reading Stands to schools under the Vidyanjali 2.0 programme.
In a directive issued to all District Mission Coordinators, SSA and District Programme Coordinators, SSA highlighted that Vidyanjali 2.0—an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India—aims to involve alumni, communities, professionals, and organizations in supporting schools through voluntary services, activities, and asset contributions.
SSA said that the introduction of Newspaper Reading Stands would encourage students to cultivate a habit of reading newspapers, helping them stay informed about current affairs and enhancing their learning environment.
SSA urged local stakeholders to come forward and contribute as part of this “noble initiative” to ensure quality education and a congenial environment in schools. The design and specifications for the stands have been shared with the districts for implementation.
