Guwahati: UTSAH, a leading child rights organization in Assam, has launched a dedicated POCSO centre aimed at providing psychosocial and legal support to children who are victims of sexual offences.

The Centre was inaugurated by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, who praised UTSAH’s relentless efforts for child rights. “Child rights activist Miguel Das and his team at UTSAH have been pioneers in working for justice for child victims. This POCSO Centre will enable them to help even more children achieve justice,” he said.

Padmapani Bora, IRS, Commissioner and Secretary, Information & Public Relations Department, Government of Assam, who attended as guest of honour, highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives. “Very few people are working courageously against child abuse. This centre is the need of the hour, as victims always need a helping hand,” he said.

The centre will offer trauma-informed counselling, legal aid, 24x7 crisis response, and assistance during investigation and trial processes. It aims to ensure child-sensitive justice delivery through partnerships with Assam Police, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs), Special POCSO Courts, and District Child Protection Units (DCPUs).

Since 2013, UTSAH has supported over 400 child victims of sexual violence. The launch of this centre marks a major step toward building a safe and responsive system for child survivors in Assam.

The initiative is supported by TGF, Dasra, Payal Chadda, and Lioness Club Umang and is part of UTSAH’s role as an empanelled Support Person Organization under Rule 4(8) of the POCSO Rules.

The event was attended by senior officials from Assam Police, child protection agencies, and UTSAH’s long-time well-wishers, all pledging to strengthen protection and rehabilitation measures for child victims.
