Guwahati: The coordination committee of the All Assam Village Defence Party (VDP) adopted resolutions on nine issues and decided to move the government.
The coordination committee of VDP held its extended executive meeting in Guwahati today and took the resolutions. The committee appealed to the government to release their arrears remunerations of 36 months to the joint account of the president and secretary of the coordination committee.
The committee pointed out that despite their crucial role in maintaining law and order, VDP members receive inadequate financial support. They urged the government to increase the honorarium from Rs 2,500 to Rs 10,000 per month. They also sought a systematic mechanism for promotions and better infrastructure, including office spaces and meeting halls at the district and sub-divisional levels. They urged the government to increase their upper age limit till they remain fit.
