GUWAHATI: In a significant meeting held in New Delhi, Assam’s Minister for Science and Technology, Keshab Mahanta, met with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to discuss the progress of the Guwahati Science City project. The project, jointly funded by the Ministry of Culture and the Government of Assam, aims to develop a national-level, state-of-the-art science museum.
The Guwahati Science City project has received a major boost with Shekhawat assuring that the pending work of the first phase would be completed swiftly, with a formal inauguration planned for December this year. The union minister also agreed to provide additional central funds required for the project’s completion. Mahanta informed Shekhawat that construction of the three main buildings under the first phase is nearing completion, with the state government having already made arrangements to fulfil its responsibilities regarding external infrastructure development linked to the project.
The Government of Assam has taken steps to fulfil its financial commitment of approximately Rs 143 crore and has expedited the construction of the connecting road to the project site, expected to be completed soon. Shekhawat assured that his ministry would provide the additional funds necessary to complete the extended construction work and instructed officials to begin preparatory measures for installing advanced museum equipment by August.
