Assam: 350 young minds join State Children’s Science Congress

MANGALDAI: A total of 350 highly inquisitive and interested students from different districts of the state participated in the 21st State Children’s Science Congress 2025 under the aegis of Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Asom (GVSA), which began on Thursday at Mangaldai College, hosted by the Darrang District Committee of GVSA. The four-day-long science extravaganza, titled ‘Shikar Ananda Utsav’, ceremonially began with the hoisting of the GVSA flag by its president, Tapan Kr Sarma, followed by the hoisting of the Children’s Science Congress flag by Dr. Kumud Ch Sarma, president of GVSA, Darrang, and the offering of ‘Smriti Tarpan’ by Punya Sarma, working president of the Science Congress Reception Committee, and Prabhat Saharia, secretary of GVSA, Darrang, respectively.

Later in the day, Mangaldai legislator Basanta Das inaugurated the book fair organized on the occasion, while Dr. Amanul Haque inaugurated the mobile science exhibition of the National Science Centre, Guwahati. Several learning corners were designed for the occasion, where participating children, divided into different groups, were imparted practical knowledge on various science topics in a more engaging manner.

The event also features a seminar on the topic ‘Role of Science and Technology in Popularizing Science’, an interactive session with Asom Gaurav awardee and leading industrialist Anupam Deka, cultural programmes among the participants, a science magic show by noted magician Altaf Hussain Khandakar, extempore speech, storytelling and quiz contests, an open session, a book release, and displays of the mobile science exhibition and planetarium under Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatra, among others.
