STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asom Goriya Yuva Chatra Parishad (SAGYCP) conferred the Bagh Hazarika Alias Ismail Siddiki Award 2019 to senior journalist cum social worker Mujibur Rahman at Guwahati Press Club on Wednesday.

Receiving the award that comprises of cash, a citation, a seleng sador, a gamusa, a Jaapi and a xorai , Mujibur Rahman said, “Now-a-days, it has become very necessary to provide our children not only with institutional education but also with moral and ethical knowledge. The way parents are ignored by their own children in their old age, makes me feel like we’re living in a society where people consider themselves elite by only being educated with institutional education. I would like to appeal to all the parents to give their children proper knowledge on humanity. It’s high time to leave the self-centered mindset otherwise, one day, we’ll become rootless.”

Present in the occasion, senior advocate Nekibur Zaman said, “The award has been conferred to the right person as Rahman’s social work prove him not only as a journalist but real human being. Because, unlike Bagh Hazarika who fought against the Mughals under Lachit Barphukan, Mujibur Rahman too even after being a Muslim has worked for the people irrespective of caste. Besides giving shelter to homeless olds, Rahman has done the rituals of funeral of many Hindu by wearing dhuti, so, I would say the award has received the right owner, Rahman’s initiative for the poor and helpless must be appreciated and people should come forward and join him in his noble deeds.”
