Bharatiya Itihas with Bharatiya Perspective: ICHR & BISS conduct national workshop

'BHARATIYA ITIHAS WITH BHARATIYA PERSPECTIVE'

GUWAHATI: The 'Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti (BISS) Assam' in association with the 'Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) New Delhi conducted a day-long national-level seminar on ' Writing of Bharatiya Itihas with Bharatiya Perspective" on Thursday.

Dr Subhajit Choudhury organised the workshop on behalf of BISS Assam. Professor Sudeshna Bharttacharjya moderated the inaugural session whereas Dr Juri Sarma and Dr Ankita Dutta moderated the two technical sessions respectively.

Organising the Secreary of the 'Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana' Dr Balmukun Pandey inaugurated the workshop. Addressing the gathering, Pandey said that the time has arrived to write the "itihas" of Bharat with a Bharatiya perspective, adding that such a move will make India a world leader.

Dr Santosh Kumar Shukla, Dean, School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) as a resource person dwelt on 'Sanskrit in Itihas Lekhon'. He categorically stated that one should know Sanksrit to know Bharatiya History. He also mentioned that the Indian language refers to three languages namely Sanskrit, Pali and Pakrit, adding that "without knowing Sanskrit or these three languages the life and soul of Bharatiya itihas cannot be explored.

Noted historian Prof. Mahaveer Prasad Jain alleged that the "Bharatiya itihas has been destroyed right from 1780 till 1947 during the British Raj and the post-Independence period by pseudo-secular liberals".

ICHR Director, Dr Om Jee Upadhyay narrated the paradigm shift of writing "Itihas" and ways of approaching Bharat as Biswaguru". Various works such as the 'Revival of Saraswati River Civilisation', 'De-recognition of the Aryan Invasion Theory' are examples of this paradigm shift of "Bharatiya Itihas" writing, he added.

Eminent scientist on the excavation work of the Saraswati River, Prof. Srinivasan Kalyanaraman narrated how the river was flowing, the maritime life of that time. He also enlightened the gathering about a plan to revive the Saraswati River.

The workshop concluded with the address of the president of the 'Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti Assam', Prof. Dilip Kumar Phukan.
