Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City Delegation on Six-Day Visit to Assam

Guwahati: A high-level nine-member delegation from Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), Bhutan is currently on a six-day official visit to Assam and Meghalaya.

On the first day of their visit, the delegation toured the historic Hayagriva Madhab Temple at Hajo— a site of deep religious and cultural importance. They later visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati and held discussions with the institute’s Director, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, and his team. At the Centre for Nanotechnology, they were briefed on IIT-G’s pioneering work in sustainable construction using bamboo, as well as innovations like 3D-printed structures.

On Sunday, the team visited the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati, where they were welcomed by Divisional Forest Officer Ashwini Kumar, IFS. The visit aimed at understanding conservation practices and biodiversity efforts in the region.

The delegation was accompanied by Jigme Thinlye Namgyal, Consul General of Bhutan in Guwahati, and Phurpa Tshering, Consul, Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, during their visits in Assam.

The delegation travelled to Meghalaya on Monday, June 9, as part of their ongoing tour. On June 10, they are expected to meet Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Secretary, DGP, and other senior officials. The itinerary also includes visits to Kamakhya Temple and Pandu Port on June 11.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to foster cross-border cooperation in sustainable development, technology, spirituality, and regional connectivity.

The delegation arrived on June 7 at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, where they were received by officials from the Government of Assam and the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General in Guwahati.
