GUWAHATI: The Brahmaputra Carnival, a three-month-long celebration, is currently underway along the banks of the Brahmaputra River at Lachit Ghat, Guwahati. Scheduled from December 15, 2024, to March 15, 2025, this unique event promises an immersive experience blending cultural traditions, thrilling adventures, and luxurious accommodations. The carnival attracts many domestic and foreign tourists. The carnival has drawn a diverse crowd, featuring a blend of natural beauty and technological innovation that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the North-East region.

The entry ticket to the carnival is priced at Rs. 30, and before Christmas the entry fee was free. Over 20 food stalls offer traditional Assamese cuisine, while various games and adventure sports, such as speedboat rides, kayaking, ATV rides, river rafting, jet skiing, and bungee jumping, cater to thrill-seekers. Cultural highlights include the traditional music and dance performances, live concerts, and exhibitions of local handicrafts and culinary heritage. Local artisans and performers will have a platform to showcase their talents, enriching the cultural tapestry of the festival.

Speaking to The Sentinel, a Guwahati resident shared their excitement about the Brahmaputra Carnival, saying, “Evenings at the Brahmaputra Carnival are pure magic. From lively vibes to unforgettable moments, every second is a blend of beauty and bliss.” Adding, he said that this sentiment captures the enchanting atmosphere of the festival, which has become a must-visit event for locals and tourists alike. Another visitor said, “As the new year is approaching, it is the best place to stay and enjoy the view and various activities.”

For those seeking relaxation, the event offers a luxurious experience with three tent categories: Royal Tents, Premium Tents, and Deluxe Tents, all providing modern amenities and breathtaking river views. There are a total of 20 tents, and prices start from Rs. 7,500. For those who wish to spend the night in tents, modern accommodations have been arranged to enjoy the view, starting from Lachit Ghat to the sandbar in a speedboat. The water activities are priced starting at Rs. 300 to Rs. 1000.

The day river cruise is priced at Rs. 600 per person. Additionally, a night river cruise has been arranged, priced at Rs. 2000 per person. Adventure games and activities for children are also part of the carnival.

Moreover, two new activities were launched on Monday: hot-air balloon rides and paragliding. While the hot-air balloon ride is available after a weight check, the paragliding activity is still under testing. The Brahmaputra Carnival invites visitors from all walks of life to experience the magic of Assam.
