CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Functioning of Guwahati Development Department

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reviewed the functioning of Guwahati Development Department at his conference room at Janata Bhawan and took stock of Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), smart city project etc.

'Clear blockages at riverbanks and set up a botanical garden at Fancy Bazar'

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reviewed the functioning of Guwahati Development Department at his conference room at Janata Bhawan and took stock of Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), smart city project etc.

The Chief Minister reviewed the status of the solid waste management project being set up at Dibrugarh under the Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program funded by the Asian Development Bank while he also directed the department to complete the Dibrugarh Town Protection and Drainage Project on time. He also directed to speed up implementation of the Southeast Guwahati Water Supply Project.

Stressing on the importance of stopping all construction works on the lands near river banks in Guwahati to keep them blockage-free, the Chief Minister directed for setting up more parks and open spaces in the city. He also instructed the GDD to build a botanical garden on the 56 bigha plot of erstwhile central jail premises at Fancy Bazar within three months.

He took stock of the artificial flood management plan, waste disposal system, street lighting etc and directed the GMC to improve its revenue collection while taking steps to collect all unpaid municipality taxes.

Reviewing the status of implementation of the Guwahati Smart City Project, the Chief Minister directed to complete the street light projects on time while implementing the preliminary projects included in the Smart City Project at the earliest.

Additional Chief Secretary of GDD Maninder Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Samir Kumar Sinha and other top officials of GDD were present in the meeting, stated a release.
