GUWAHATI: Does the ruling coalition at Dispur losing cement to keep the partners together? Such a question arises as both the BJP and the AGP are seen strengthening their organizational activities in LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) currently held by the respective collation partner.

The BJP has been busy in strengthening organizational bases of the party throughout the year. Of late, the AGP is also seen strengthening its organizational bases at LACs currently held by the BJP and where the BJP had stronghold. The Chabua LAC in Dibrugarh district is currently held by the BJP. However, on November 17 the AGP took out a rally there in the presence of party president Atul Bora and working president Keshab Mahanta.

In AGP-held LACs like Patacharkuchi, Kamalpur, Naharkatia and a few others, the BJP is also strengthening its bases. The current trend gives an impression that all's not well within the ruling coalition at Dispur. If seems as though each of the coalition partners is not ready to take risk, and in the event of their trysts coming to an abrupt end each of them may go it alone.

The tryst between the BJP and the BPF is no better either. Repeated showdown between State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BPF chief Hagrama Mahilary in the run-up to the BTC poll continues to push the two coalition partners towards points of no return. The relationship between the two parties has come to such a pass that there is likelihood of the BJP fielding candidates in the 12 LACs in the BTR in the 2021 Assembly election.
