Complaint Filed in Dispur PS Seeking FIR, NSA Against KSU Leaders Over Shillong Rally Violence

GUWAHATI: Kutumba Surakshya Parishad president Satya Ranjan Borah lodged a complaint to Dispur Police Station on Sunday seeking registration of an FIR against Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) leaders over the violence during the organisation’s bike rally in Shillong on August 19.

In his complaint, Borah alleged that KSU members vandalised statues of Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, damaged tourist and private vehicles and attacked tourists during the rally. He alleged that the protesters used iron rods, hockey sticks, stones and other objects during the incidents.

Borah alleged that the violence was pre-planned and posed a threat to national integrity, unity and socio-cultural harmony. He also alleged that the incidents could encourage separatist activities and create tension in the region.

The complaint named KSU president Raymond Kharjana, vice-president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet, general secretary Reuben Najiar, assistant general secretary Pynshaiborlang Rani, organising secretary Cleanser Shabong, assistant organising secretary Eddie Malngiang and information and publicity secretary Pynshai Kupar M Dkhar, along with other office-bearers.

Borah urged the police to take action against those responsible and sought stringent legal measures, including invocation of the National Security Act. He also alleged that the KSU could have received foreign funding to carry out activities aimed at destabilising the country, though he provided no evidence for the claim.

The complaint also alleged that the incidents had damaged public property and threatened peace and harmony among people from different regions. Borah submitted media reports along with the complaint for reference.
