Guwahati: The conviction rate in Guwahati has been on the rise since 2020. The criminals convicted include murderers, rapists, criminals convicted under the NDPS Act, and others.
According to the data of crimes made available by the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, the conviction rate in Guwahati in 2024 was 26.08% against 24.85% in 2023, 21.65% in 2022, 4.03% in 2021, and 9.14% in 2020.
On crime against humans, the data said that Guwahati City had 63 murder cases in 2024 against 67 in 2023, 74 in 2022, 61 in 2021, and 52 in 2020.
On crimes against women, the city witnessed 69 rape cases in 2024 against 48 in 2023, 62 in 2022, 60 in 2021, and 39 in 2020.
On criminals convicted under NDPS, the data said that 365 cases were registered in 2024 against 301 in 2023, 242 in 2022, 218 in 2021, and 113 in 2020. The number of persons arrested is 529 in 2024 against 518 in 2023, 426 in 2022, 466 in 2021, and 208 in 2020.
The data of the achievements of Cyber Police Station, Panbazar, for the year 2024 made available by Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, said a total of 29 cases were registered leading to the arrest of 57. The year (2024) also saw the arrest of as many as 821 financial frauds.
The data provided also showed 268 fake/hacked social media accounts and 94 hacked WhatsApp accounts sent for deactivation. Four programmes against cybercrime fraud were also organized, and 63 suspected phone numbers were deactivated.
The data for the year 2023 (September to December) includes 15 registered cases, 66 arrested against cyber fraud cases, 131 arrested against financial fraud, leading to the recovery of Rs. 5.82 lakh. As many as 68 fake/hacked social media accounts and 18 hacked WhatsApp accounts were sent for deactivation.
