GUWAHATI: Kamrup Metro finally seems to be recovering from the COVID-19 situation as the district registered 569 positive cases on Thursday (May 27), which is the lowest single-day spike in the last 10 days.

However, the situation remains grim in some areas of the district.

In this view, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu chaired a review meeting over the situation with different senior officers on Thursday.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the area near Sonapur Primary Health Centre has been severely affected by the dreaded virus. The area has a positivity rate of 7.47 per cent and the DC asked the officials to conduct special testing drives in the area. As revealed in the meeting, most of the deceased in Kamrup Metro are above the age of 60. The DC directed the officials that the COVID-19 positive persons above the age of 50 should be admitted to hospitals and should not be kept under home quarantine.

DC Pegu stressed the need for contact tracing and also directed the officials to increase the vaccination programmes in the rural areas.

"We are focusing on conducting COVID-19 tests at offices, business establishments, market areas in Kamrup Metro. A special testing drive will be conducted in saloons soon," said an official of NHM (National Health Mission), Kamrup Metro.
