Dhopalia Sarbajonin Durga Puja Committee Sets Up 51-Member Panel for 29th Year Celebrations in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Dhopalia Sarbajonin Durga Puja Committee has constituted a new 51-member organising committee for the 29th edition of its annual Durga Puja celebrations.

The decision was taken at a general meeting held at Jyotikuchi Primary School to discuss preparations for the upcoming festivities. The meeting was chaired by committee president Munindra Deka (Moon), while general secretary Hemanta Bey outlined the objectives and presented last year’s income and expenditure statement.

Tarun Kranti Ghosh has been appointed Executive President, while Hemanta Bey retained the post of General Secretary and Pankaj Biswas has been appointed Treasurer.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been appointed Chief Patron and former Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita Chief Advisor. Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Dispur MLA Pradyut Bordoloi, former West Guwahati MLA and AMTRON Chairman Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Deputy Mayor Smita Roy and Manuram Tumung have been appointed advisers. The Durga Puja celebrations will be held from October 16 to 21, followed by Sri Sri Lakshmi Puja on October 25. An All-Assam-level Aarti Competition will be organised on October 19 (Ashtami), with cash prizes of Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 for the top three positions.

A women’s Dhaki troupe from Maslandapur in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, led by Padma Shri awardee Gokul Chandra Das, will be a major attraction. On October 18 (Saptami), Anamika Kalita of Ghorasapar, Nalbari, will present a special performance titled ‘Mahila Nagara’.

The committee appealed to devotees and residents to participate in the celebrations and extend their cooperation for the successful conduct of the 29th-year festivities.
