Director of Information and Public Relations asked to monitor fake news in social media

GUWAHATI: Fake news and misinformation in the social media platforms has compelled the State DIPR (Director of Information and Public Relations) to ask all DIPROs (District Information and Public Relations Officers) and SDIPROs (Sub-divisional Information and Public Relations Officers) to closely monitor fake and misleading news in the social media and keep the local administration and the DIPR informed of them.

The DIPR has also asked them to seek clarification from their respective local administrations when contacted by the media or the public so as to ensure dessimination of the correct information on the COVID-19 pandemic. They have also been asked to keep records of their monitoring in writing for future references.

The DIPROs and the SDIPROs have also been asked to keep the media and the public informed uninterruptedly all initiatives taken by the government to fight COVID-19. The Director has also asked them to streamline social media handle/ whatsApp numbers district and subdivision wise and circulate them widely so that the public have access to correct and authentic information.
