GUWAHATI: Assam has seen a significant rise in the number of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) cases. As per data compiled by the CID, Assam, in 2018, the number of NDPS cases registered was 479 while in 2019 it increased to 859. In 2020, the number of NDPS cases registered across the State was 1,023 and the number further increased to 1,641 in 2021.

The number of murders in the State has seen a slight drop. While in 2021, 1,185 cases of murder were registered, in 2020, the figure was 1,237. But the increase in the number of rape cases has become a cause of concern. In 2020, the number of rape cases registered across the State was 1,736, but the number shot up to 3, 797 in 2021.

The number of rioting cases registered in 2020 was 1,089. This increased to 2,159 in 2021. The number of extortion cases registered in 2020 was 1,268 while in 2021 it increased to 2,502. The number of robbery cases in 2020 was 193 while in 2021 it increased to 212. In 2020, 6,081 cheating cases were registered while in 2021, 13,509 such cases were registered.
