GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF) Assam on Tuesday confiscated fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 14.50 lakh during an operation in the Goalpara district, and three persons have been arrested in this connection.
Acting on input provided by STF, Assam chief Partha Sarathi Mahanta about a covert deal in Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) to take place somewhere at Krishnai in the Goalpara district, a team from STF, Assam carried out an operation in order to foil the deal and to apprehend the perpetrators.
Accordingly, the operation team from STF, Assam proceeded from Guwahati on Tuesday morning. The team intercepted a Maruti Alto vehicle bearing registration number at AS 18F 6863 at Krishnai town and apprehended three FICN dealers – Md. Anowar Hussain (52), Md. Rafique Ahmed (47) and Md. Krowel Marak (35), all from Krishnai, Goalpara. During the search operation, 29 bundles of FICN of Rs 500 denomination were recovered inside the vehicle. The FICN, the vehicle and four mobile handsets were seized from their possession. All the apprehended persons and seized items were handed over to the OC, Krishnai PS for initiating necessary legal action and a case was registered at Krishnai PS for carrying out further investigation.
