Former Assam Chief Secretary PP Verma passed away on Thursday night due to COVID-19. He breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at around 1.20 am where he was undergoing treatment.

GUWAHATI: Former Assam Chief Secretary PP Verma passed away on Thursday night due to COVID-19. He breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at around 1.20 am where he was undergoing treatment.

Verma was a 1978 batch IAS officer who was appointed as Chief Secretary of Assam in 2013. He had also served as the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare and Public Health Engineering Departments of Assam. He was heading the BTR accord implementation committee as its chairperson.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled his demise. He tweeted: "Saddened by the passing away of former Chief Secretary of Assam, Shri PP Verma, IAS. He will be remembered for his administrative acumen, especially his role in implementation of the BTR Accord. My condolences to the bereaved and prayers for his moksha. Om Shanti!"
