Former Vice-Chancellor Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah Refutes HYCPA’s Allegation

The Sentinel carried out a news item in its September 25, 2019 edition where the Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) accused former Vice-Chancellor of Assam Agriculture University Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah of creating a record of corruption in his 10 years of service. The news item was entirely based on a press conference addressed by HYCPA office bearers at Guwahati Press Club on September 24. In response to the news item Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah has strongly refuted the allegation of HYCPA. Below are the contents of the clarification letter of Bujarbaruah sent to this news paper:

“That I am interfering with the selection process of the new Vice Chancellor of AAU which is totally baseless, vague and absurd claim with no tangible evidence. Moreover, this claim is highly speculative in nature and a meager conspiracy theory and I deny it completely. Please ask the two Hon’ble Ministers named if I had even approached them.

“To my knowledge and understanding, neither I during my tenure nor the University had received any RTI application from Sri Baishya on the issue.

“That as per the news item published, the report of the Enquiry Committee consisting of Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury, Mr. Muskesh Sahai and Mr. J.K Sharma, confirmed involvement of Dr Bujarbaruah in various financial, educational and administrative irregularities. These are extremely serious allegations which demanded your own appraisal of the enquiry report and I want to respond by informing that appraisal of the report of the Enquiry Committee has shown no such confirmation of the allegations against me to hold any legal ground. Such accusations are actually criminal in nature which need authentication before publishing it.

“That a Screening Committee with marking system was formed with the sole intention of selecting a new Vice Chancellor of my choice to hush up the alleged irregularities and illegalities in academics, financial, appointments and other matters. Once again a highly speculative claim particularly because the Screening Committee was constituted as per the verbal direction of the Chairman of the Selection Committee for their convenience. It needs to be mentioned that all the applications were submitted to the selection committee for their perusal and decision. Since I had only contributed for the growth and development of the University and not taken anything out of it and also since I am not in the selection committee, how could I influence the selection committee constituted with eminent scholars and personalities that too by the Hon’ble Chancellor of the University?

“As regards promoting and helping agri-related NGOs, it is our job in the University.”
