Gauhati High Court rejects bail plea of Srinivas in harassment case

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has rejected the bail petition filed by the former head of the youth wing of the Congress party.

Justice Ajit Borthakur, who was undertaking the hearing on the matter, gave this ruling. The ruling mentioned, "In consideration of the various pleas taken by the petitioner and the documents he filed, this Court is of the opinion that it is not a fit case to grant the privilege of pre-arrest bail to the petitioner. Accordingly, the pre-arrest bail application of the petitioner stands rejected."

The order mentioned that the petition filed under Section 438 of the CrPC to grant bail to the petitioner, Srinivas BV, in relation to case number 692/2023 under the Dispur Police Station under sections 509/294/341/352/354/354A (iv)/506 of the IPC along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, was rejected by the Court.

The Advocate General for the Government of Assam mentioned that the Court took the decision after considering the facts regarding the case against Srinivas BV and that the state police had given him sufficient time to be present before the same after a preliminary investigation.
