STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The election for the posts of Cultural Secretary and Boys' Common Room Secretary to the Post Graduate Students' Union (PGSU) of Gauhati University (GU) for the term 2022-2023 has been postponed following an order from the Kamrup Metropolitan district Munsiff Court dated October 17.
The elections to the PGSU for the term 2022-23 was supposed to be held on October 19. However, the Kamrup Metropolitan district Munsiff Court issued an order to restrain the election to the posts of Cultural Secretary and Boys' Common Room Secretary because two candidates – Abinash Saikia and Dhiraj Kalita – had allegedly manipulated their attendance. The election rule mandates 75 per cent attendance for contesting election. Abinash Saikia is contesting for Cultural Secretary and Dhiraj Kalita for Boys' Common Room Secretary. The court, therefore, restrained the holding of election to the two posts until further order.
