GUWAHATI: A team of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption (V&AC), Assam today arrested a woman employee, identified as Sima Devi, Senior Administrative Assistant of the Welfare of Bodoland Department under the Welfare of Plains Tribes & Backward Classes Department at Janata Bhawan here, after catching her red-handed while accepting a bribe.
According to sources, officials received a complaint from a person that Sima Devi had demanded an amount of Rs. 10,000 for processing the salary file of the complainant's sister, a teacher working at Barama, which was pending in the Department for a long time. When the complainant and his sister approached Sima Devi, in conjunction with Robin Singh Thapa, a Grade-IV staff, she demanded the bribe to facilitate smooth processing of the file.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant then approached the V&AC for assistance.
Accordingly, a trap was laid at 'D' Block, 3rd Floor, Janata Bhawan and Sima Devi was caught in the act of accepting the money and Rs. 4,000 was recovered from her possession in the presence of the independent witnesses.
During search at her workplace, an additional amount of Rs. 99,000 was recovered by the V&AC team from her handbag. Simultaneously, Robin Singh Thapa was also apprehended.
A case has been registered in ACB Police Station vide Case No. 01/2022 u/s 7(a)/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Sima Devi.
