GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Traffic Police and the Transport Department have joined hands to carry out a joint operation on April 13 where the enforcement authorities inspected a total of 199 dumpers.

As many as 24 offences were detected during this major crackdown conducted to ensure road safety and enforce compliance among heavy vehicle operators.

The violations caught during the drive included 15 cases of drivers not wearing seat belts,  2 cases of vehicles operating without valid pollution certificates, 3 instances of drunken driving, a case of a driver found without a valid driving license and three cases of vehicles intercepted for overloading.

Enforcement officials responded to these violations by forwarding 18 cases to the court as non-FIR matters, issuing six e-challans on the spot and seizing three driving licences.

Officials informed that such major crackdown will continue in the coming weeks to promote safer driving practices and curb illegal operations by heavy vehicles.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, two persons lost their lives in a tragic road accident that took place in Lalmati near Games Village, involving a dumper, two scooters, and two four-wheelers. The incident has prompted a joint investigation by the Transport Department, Traffic Police, and the National Highways Authority of India.
