GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, Fatasil Ambari police recovered 25 stolen water pumps during a late-night raid on Sunday at a dump yard located in the Palashbari area of the city. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officers conducted the operation and arrested the yard owner, identified as Akhtar Hussain.

According to police, the water pumps were stolen in a single night from multiple residential buildings in the Sonaighuli area. The sudden disappearance of the pumps left many households without a water supply, prompting a series of complaints and triggering a police investigation.

During questioning, Akhtar Hussain reportedly admitted to purchasing the stolen pumps from a gang operating out of Goroimari. Following his confession, the Fatasil Ambari police launched a follow-up operation in Goroimari. However, the suspects managed to escape before the police arrived, allegedly tipped off about the impending raid.

Investigators believe that the gang is responsible for a string of similar thefts across the city. They suspect that the dump yard was being used as a cover to store and possibly resell the stolen equipment.
