GUWAHATI: The All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) has strongly opposed the state government’s decision to relocate the Gauhati High Court from Guwahati city, calling it an arbitrary and irrational move. In a statement, the union demands that the government immediately withdraw the decision, which they believe is a body blow to Guwahati’s pride and heritage.
The AGSU president, Kamal Mahanta, and general secretary, Pranjal Deka, stated, “The Gauhati High Court is an integral part of Guwahati’s history and identity, and its relocation would be unacceptable. The court’s establishment in Guwahati has a glorious history, and its presence is a matter of pride for the city.”
The union also questioned the government’s claim that the proposal to relocate the high court came from the court itself, asking which statement is true. They demanded that the government reconsider its decision and respect the sentiments of the people of Guwahati.
The All Guwahati Students’ Union has expressed its solidarity with the High Court’s bar who have also opposed the relocation proposal. The union has urged the government to understand the gravity of the situation and withdraw its decision.
