GUWAHATI: APCC president Bhupen Borah expressed his shock over the release of the report of Justice (Retd) Biplab Sharma Commission on the cash-for-job scam in the APSC.
Speaking to the media here today, Bhupen Borah raised doubt over the timing of the release of the Justice (Retd) Biplob Sharma Report on the irregularities in the APSC. "Interestingly, out of the 900-page report, only page 502 has been widely quoted and discussed where late Tarun Gogoi has been named," he said.
"The entire Assam is well aware of how late Tarun Gogoi trusted Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and how he backstabbed Mr. Gogoi for power. It is also known that a list of candidates provided by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was found in the residence of Rakesh Pal, the main convict in this APSC job scam," Borah said.
Borah further mentioned that the three cabinet ministers, including Gautam Roy, pressured the late Tarun Gogoi to appoint Rakesh Pal as the chairperson of the APSC. While criticising the State BJP Government, Bora mentioned that the idea behind this report release at this juncture is to divert attention from other burning issues, such as trapped labourers in the illegal Umrangso coal mine.
Bora also mentioned the contributions of the late Tarun Gogoi in modern Assam, from financial stability to infrastructural development leading to national games.
