Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has mentored the launch of the “Aquaculture Biodiversity Centre Fish Seed and Aquafeed Production Enterprises & Training” Livelihood Business Incubator (LBI) at Gauhati University. Inaugurated by Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, the incubator operates under the ASPIRE scheme of the Ministry of MSME.
As the national mentoring institute for LBIs, IIE has designed and scaled sustainable micro-enterprise models across key sectors. “This Livelihood Business Incubator will empower beneficiaries through skill training, entrepreneurship development, and incubation support,” said Shri Ishwar C. Poojar, Director of IIE, emphasising the need to embed entrepreneurship curricula in every training programme.
Prof. Mahanta highlighted Assam’s rich cultural and economic ties to fisheries, advocating an interdisciplinary approach to position aquaculture as a viable career path. Prof. Bechan Lal, OSD to the Governor of Assam, underlined the Northeast’s untapped fisheries potential and called for collaborative institutional efforts to drive regional growth and global market integration.
Equipped with modern hatchery and feed-processing facilities, the new centre will offer hands-on training in fish seed production, aquafeed formulation, ornamental fish farming, and post-harvest techniques. Supported by ICAR-CIBA, Lucknow, the incubator aligns with IIE’s mission to foster grassroots entrepreneurship nationwide.
