Guwahati: B. Borooah College (Autonomous) celebrated National Librarians’ Day on Monday in honour of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the father of library science in India. The programme, organized by the Hem Barua Library, underscored the vital role of libraries in education and society.

The event began with a lighting ceremony by Librarian Sanam Das. Dr. Jagadindra Ray Choudhury, Secretary of Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra, former Associate Professor of Zoology, and former Vice Principal of the college, attended as chief guest. He highlighted Dr. Ranganathan’s contributions, traced the evolution of libraries from the ancient Nalanda University to the digital era, and stressed the need for innovation, inclusivity, and accessibility in information services. While appreciating digital tools, he affirmed that the value of physical books remains unmatched.

Faculty members, staff, and students actively participated in the celebration, which concluded with a vote of thanks and refreshments, reaffirming the college’s commitment to fostering a culture of reading and learning.
