Guwahati: In a move aimed at advancing sustainable water management, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is exploring the installation of Eco-blocks at B. Borooah College to promote rainwater and surface water harvesting. A meeting was held between senior GMC officials and the college authorities to discuss the project. Executive Officer Gitanjali Parhak and Executive Engineer Bubul Chandra Borah led the discussion, highlighting how Eco-blocks can help recharge groundwater and reduce dependency on municipal water supply.
“This collaboration is part of GMC’s long-term vision to integrate water-sensitive solutions across the city. Educational institutions like B. Borooah College can lead by example in promoting water conservation,” said GMC official. “We are confident that B. Borooah College can become a model for campus-level water conservation.”
The college administration has shown positive interest in the proposal. Detailed technical evaluations and planning are expected to begin soon. If implemented, the initiative will not only support sustainable water practices on campus but also contribute to Guwahati’s broader efforts to address urban water stress and climate resilience.
