GUWAHATI: Abhishek Kar, a YouTuber, has been interrogated by the CID for the second day today for his derogatory remarks about women and black magic during a YouTube podcast. The controversy erupted after Kar claimed that women from Mayong, Assam, practice black magic and can turn men into goats before seducing them. The Assam CID took swift action and registered a case (1/2025), summoning Kar for questioning in Guwahati after his statements sparked massive outrage.
Meanwhile, the Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a case against five other YouTubers for widespread uproar after a video of the comments went viral on social media. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media on Monday to say that Guwahati Police has filed cases against five YouTubers and social influencers, namely Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina, for allegedly promoting obscenity. According to Sarma, the influencers engaged in "sexually explicit and vulgar discussions" on a show titled "India's Got Latent." The Chief Minister stated this on X, saying, "Today, @GuwahatiPol has registered an FIR against certain YouTubers and social influencers... for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled 'India's Got Latent'."
The Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a case (Cyber PS case no. 03/2025) under various sections, including the IT Act, 2000, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
According to sources, a team of police from Assam left for Mumbai for the other five YouTubers.
