Guwahati: In celebration of the upcoming 79th Independence Day, the Office of the District Transport Officer (DTO), Kamrup Metropolitan, under the Assam Transport Department, has launched “Citizen Service Month” throughout August. The initiative aims to provide instant resolution of vehicle document-related issues and ensure safe, hassle-free travel for all road users.

As part of the campaign, special emphasis will be given to assisting freedom fighters, families of martyrs, armed forces personnel, journalists, cultural workers, home guards, sanitation workers, and other key service groups. Designated help counters will be operational at the DTO office on working days after 10 am to cater specifically to their needs.

Special Duty Officer of the Transport Department, Gautam Das, emphasized the importance of keeping all vehicle-related documents — including driving license, registration certificate, fitness certificate, and pollution control certificate — valid and updated. He urged vehicle owners facing any issues to voluntarily approach the transport office and regularize their documents, thereby contributing to safer and more responsible travel.

Highlighting the accessibility of the department’s 72 contactless services, Das said that in cases of technical difficulties, support teams would be dispatched to the homes of affected citizens. Additional help desks at the DTO office will offer on-the-spot assistance to address document-related problems efficiently.

Senior transport officials have also urged vehicle owners to clear any pending dues or taxes, warning that unresolved liabilities could impact insurance claims or government assistance in the event of an accident.

To further extend support, citizens unable to visit the DTO office, particularly elderly individuals or women, can contact designated officers Jitu Chetia (9101029030), Jitu Deka (9854337119), or Jintu Rabha (6000031859) for home assistance.
