GUWAHATI: That online and offline gambling and illegal betting have been active in Guwahati has been proved yet again when Basistha police caught six gamblers red-handed near Sarusajai Stadium. The six gamblers were caught from inside a white Baleno involved in online and offline gambling and illegal betting.

The six have been identified as Munwar Hassan (27), Sukur Ali Ahmed (40), Partha Pratim Das alias Moon (31), Lutfar Rahman (40), Mokbur Hussain (36), and Abdullah Ali Faruk (22).

The police seized eight mobile phones, many ATM cards, PAN and Aadhaar (some duplicates), Rs 8,780 in cash, and the white Baleno (AS01EY0944).

The group used illegal betting apps and mule bank accounts to route money, allegedly by tricking innocent people.

Meanwhile, Sonapur police conducted coordinated raids across multiple locations — Old Market, Jugdol Tiniali, Jugdol, and Medhikuchi — targeting illegal Teer gambling operations and apprehended five individuals and dismantled four key gambling dens.

The five arrested persons have been identified as Pijush Dutta (50), Mithun Dey (38), Prem Chetry (21), Dipu Das (38), and Pabitra Rahang (47).

The police also seized five mobile phones used for digital Teer transactions, multiple notebooks and handwritten records of Teer sales, carbon paper and a scale (used for manual ticketing), pens used for numbering and cash amounting to Rs 4,180.
