GUWAHATI: In a bid to prevent traffic congestion and ensure public safety, the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Assam, has issued an order restricting all types of processions within Guwahati city. The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, aims to minimize inconvenience and prevent anticipated congestion. According to the order, processions often lead to significant traffic congestion, affecting the free movement of vehicles and causing inconvenience to commuters and citizens. These events also create challenges for citizens, lead to crowding and congestion, and may delay emergency services, impacting public safety.
The order, promulgated by Imdad Ali, APS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, will come into force with immediate effect. Violation of this order shall be punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Any person aggrieved by this order may appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police to file a written objection for its cancellation or modification.
