Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has intensified its demand for stern action against individuals implicated in the alleged Apex Bank scam, calling for the immediate suspension of the bank's Managing Director, Dambaru Saikia.

Addressing the media on Monday, APCC Media Department Chairman Bobbeta Bhattacharjee referred to fresh revelations by the prime accused in the case, Rajesh Bajaj. Bajaj has reportedly named former BJP minister Sanjay Kishan and current BJP MLA Biswajit Phukan in connection with the scam. According to Bajaj, Kishan allegedly obstructed a provident fund transaction of a tea garden worker and demanded a significant sum of money, a portion of which he claims to have been paid. Bajaj further alleged that an irregular loan of Rs 20.3 crore was sanctioned to him due to his proximity with the Apex Bank chairman, with knowledge and support from MLA Biswajit Phukan and Managing Director Saikia.

Bhattacharjee underscored that Apex Bank, a public financial institution, was revived through concrete reforms under the leadership of late Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. He cautioned that such scandals threaten the credibility of the institution and demanded that Dambaru Saikia be suspended immediately, pending a thorough and impartial investigation.

In a related charge, the Congress leader also questioned the alleged role of businessman Charanjeet Singh Gandhi, who has been accused by Bajaj of operating a sand-gravel syndicate in the state. "This only reaffirms the existence of an active syndicate network in Assam," said Bhattacharjee, challenging the Chief Minister to clarify his government's stance on the issue.

The APCC has urged the ruling BJP to break its silence and take swift action against those named in the corruption scandal.
